Abstract

Narrative illustration is a visual storytelling technique that has evolved from prehistoric cave drawings to modern digital media such as comics and editorial illustrations. Despite its commercial potential, many artists in Nigeria are discouraged from engaging in narrative art due to limited drawing skills. This study explores the use of photographic tracing and Photoshop techniques to create narrative illustrations. Using exploratory and experimental methods, the research demonstrates that artists without advanced drawing skills can produce compelling narrative artworks by leveraging digital tools. The findings show that staged photography combined with digital rendering can serve as an accessible pathway into narrative illustration, expanding opportunities for artists in contemporary creative industries.
