Abstract

This study examines the evolving role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in graphic design, arguing that AI should be viewed as a collaborative tool rather than a replacement for human creativity. Drawing on historical technological shifts such as photography and desktop publishing, the research highlights how innovation reshapes rather than eliminates creative professions. The study introduces the concept of the “Intent Gap,” emphasizing that AI lacks human qualities such as cultural sensitivity, purpose, and aesthetic judgment. Using a qualitative analytical framework, the research explores the Human-in-the-Loop model, where designers act as curators and strategists. The findings suggest that AI enhances creative processes by supporting conceptual development while preserving the central role of human creativity.
